Christian Fascists Crack Down on Individual Rights

This week, Germany’s federal constitutional court ruled Sunday shopping unconstitutional – at least the way Berliners do it. The shop-till-you-drop culture that arose alongside globalisation in the 1990s has long clashed with Germany’s postwar constitution.  (...)

The Catholic and Evangelical (protestant) churches, which brought the complaint, were not the only ones delighted with the ruling. So were big trades unions, probably a majority of small shopkeepers and the large part of the German population that, religious or not, simply likes traditional ways.
